A message from the Co-Presidents

Welcome to the 6th Annual Miami Youth Climate Summit!

We feel more than honored to have the opportunity to lead the summit this year, especially as the first all-female duo of presidents. Coming into the Leadership Board as middle schoolers, we had limited knowledge of the impact and necessity of youth action within the realm of climate justice. However, in the 3 years we have been here, we have found a community that has helped us grow not just as climate activists but also as individuals. In a short period of time, we have grown from a community to a family, and we couldn’t be prouder of the interest the summit has cultivated in other students.

Our generation has been faced with the challenge of caring for a worn and broken planet, a load that is burdensome to bear. This comes with feelings of climate anxiety and fear, which are particularly heightened in frontline communities like ours where we experience an increased frequency of natural disasters and the effects of sea level rise. However, as this year’s MYCS Presidents, we hope that through the education that the summit provides we can equip our community with the tools to fight climate change and go from feelings of fear to feelings of hope.

Overall, we strive to educate people on how to limit their ecological footprint and empower others to take action, and find solutions that are affordable for all communities to combat climate change. This is what empowers our dedicated team of students with diverse backgrounds coming from 11 different public and private schools. We truly believe that united we can make a difference.

Best,
